Il testo mette a confronto la definizione del metodo filosofico presentata da Wittgenstein nel Tractatus logico-philosophicus con una sua osservazione del 1947 che appare di tono esplicitamente apocalittico. Il saggio si interroga sulle ragioni che possono avere determinato il passaggio da una visione mistica, per la quale la scienza ha certamente un limite essenziale che però non ne compromette di per sé il valore, a una concezione per la quale essa costituisce invece un rischio essenziale per l’umanità.
Dopo avere analizzato i profondi mutamenti di tipo logico, epistemologico e filosofico realizzatisi in quegli anni in relazione al fenomeno scientifico, e dopo avere sottolineato l’importanza del passaggio a quello che viene chiamato il plesso tecnoscientifico, l’articolo si conclude ipotizzando che la visione di Wittgenstein non sia di per sé apocalittica anche se ciò non ci mette in grado di escludere un possibile esito catastrofico della vicenda umana.

The text compares the definition of the philosophical method presented by Wittgenstein in the Tractatus logico-philosophicus with one of his observations dating back to 1947 which appears explicitly apocalyptic in tone. The essay questions the reasons that may have determined the passage from a mystical view, for which science certainly has an essential limit that, however, does not in itself compromise the value of scientific enterprise, to a conception by which the scientific approach does, on the contrary, represent an essential risk for humanity.
After having analyzed the deep logical, epistemological and philosophical changes that took place during those years in relation to the scientific phenomenon, and after having underlined the importance of the transition to what is called the techno-scientific plexus, the article ends by hypothesizing that Wittgenstein’s view is not in itself apocalyptic, even if it does not enable us to exclude a possible catastrophic outcome of human history.
