Abstract [Ita]
Il monstrum latino, scrive Jean Clair, rientra nel campo della fantasmagoria, arte del far parlare i fantasmi: è insieme un prodigio e un avvertimento. Per questo il mostro suscita insieme terrore e fascinazione. È la raffigurazione di una possibilità, è una memoria di qualcosa che non è ancora accaduto o che ritorna perché dimenticato, rimosso o troppo lontano, eppure agente fin dalle origini, l’atavico.
Ripercorrendo alcune occorrenze scelte in maniera mirata nell’arte del XX secolo, si delinea una visione della mostruosità come radicalizzazione della figura portata al limite della forma. Da parte nostra, indichiamo nelle più recenti opere dell’artista Oscar Giaconia, della serie Parasite Soufflé (2023), una versione ulteriormente diversa. Posto sotto la rubrica del “parassita” (Cuomo), il mostro non è più il rimosso né il monito, ma si pone fuori dalla dialettica antropocentrata, è una forma che si costruisce da sé la propria materia e la propria figuralità come fin da subito in continuo transito, è il suo “segreto”, nel senso anche di secretum, di ciò che essa secerne.

The latin monstrum, writes Jean Clair, falls within the field of phantasmagoria, the art of making ghosts speak: it is both a prodigy and a warning. This is why the monster arouses both terror and fascination. It is the depiction of a possibility, it is a memory of something that has not yet happened, or that returns because it has been forgotten, removed or too far, and yet active since the origins, the atavistic.
Retracing some specifically chosen occurrences in the Art of the 20th century, a vision of monstrosity as the radicalization of the figure taken to the limits of form emerges. For our part, we point out a further different version in the most recent works by the artist Oscar Giaconia, from the Parasite Soufflé series (2023). Placed under the rubric of the “parasite” (Cuomo), the monster is no longer the repressed or the warning, but places itself outside the anthropocentric dialectic, it is a form that constructs its own matter and its own figurality like an as of now in continuous transit, it is its “secret”, also in the sense of secretum, of what it secretes.
